Personal Equipment’s for Climbing Mount Kenya

1. Sunglasses or snow goggles is a must
2. Water bottle is a must  
3. Purification kit or tablets are highly recommended and can be purchased from any chemist.
4. Torch or flash light (a must, especially for pre dawn hiking).
5. Walking pole(s) is optional since its available for hire 
6. Emergency foil blanket is also optional

Trekking Equipment’s for a successful Mount Kenya trekking Expeditions 

1. Rucksack: Big enough to fit all equipment you will need to be carried by a porter.
2. Day pack: To fit necessities required, while hiking from one point to the other.
3. Big polyethylene bag: To pack in clothes for protection against wet conditions.
4. Sleeping bag: Warm and not bulky bags are highly recommended.

Footwear for Mount Kenya Climbing expeditions

1. Walking boots with large grips are especially necessary at high altitude, light weight.
2. 4 to 8 pairs of woolen warm socks depending on your programme. Sometimes you could adapt them as gloves during bad weather.

Mt Kenya Climb Clothing packing list 


1. Warm jumpers or woolen long sleeved shirts.
2. 2 to 5 depending on the number of days (1 or 2 t-shirts may come in handy).
3. Water resistant warm jacket or ordinary heavy jacket doubled up with a rain coat.
4. Lighter jacket or track suit may come in handy during warmer spells.
5. Strong trousers preferably loose fitting ones.
6. Water resistant trouser or leg gaiters if attempting a hike during rainy season.
7. 1 or 2 shorts which can be used at lower altitude during good weather.
8. Gloves are extremely necessary above 4,000 m and when attempting a pre dawn hike.
9. Mittens or woolen hats to cover the ears against strong winds.
